I could never paint the walls Oyster Bisque

After long last, I have decided that our kitchen will be YELLOW. It seems like a nice, happy, very kitcheny color that I can live with. Now, what shade. It's going to be pale, and decidedly not like a pencil. I've got a bunch of chips, and really at this point it's all about names. Because when someone asks you, "What color is it?" you can't very well say, "It's called Sludge of Buttercup," or something like that. Whoever has the job of naming paint colors can't take it very seriously, because when you're down to the nitty-gritty shades, isn't it so random? But for the person deciding what will end up on the wall, there's all sorts of potential there. It's like you're titling the whole feel of a room, and what you want to think of whenever you're in there, living your life and cooking up things.

So, here's what I'm down to:
Zest
First Light
Sunbeam
Pineapple Cream
Lemon Butter
Warm Summer
Yellow Narcissus
Pecan Cream
Lemon Cream
Lemon Sorbet
Daisy Spell
Cocoa Butter
Orchard Ladder

What do you think?

based on the names... warm summer, first light, and the daisy one...
good luck. i love yellow on the walls... just didn't mean to make elijah's nursery soooo yellow!

Warm summer! That one's in the lead.

I love Elijah's room, it's perfect for a little boy.

I like Yellow Narcissus. It's very poetic. Or Zest. It has freshness and energy. Plus the inherent citrusy-ness.

I really liked Zest as well. it seems fresh and vibrant and a good "feel" for a kitchen. Also, first light, sunbeam, warm summer, those are all very pleasant, soothing sounding. Peaceful mornings?! Perhaps in your paint color name.
I'm leery of Pecan Cream, because it sounds more dirty brown/tan? We used Bamboo Stalk for our hallways thinking it was a khaki, tan color and perhaps should have known, but it was much more green once on the walls than the tiny square initially led us to believe. Fortunately, we ended up liking it, but it could have been a disaster. That's the biggest surprise I've had with paint color, but I do really love the names.

Lemon Sorbet. A soft color that speaks of food and it's a healthy choice because it doesn't have fat and it's cool and refreshing too. Seens like orchard ladder should be an old grayish brown with bird droppings...

Ew, good point about orchard ladder!

at first i thought zest would be great. then a picture of a live-action ken doll in a towel singing "zestfully clean" popped into my head and i had to rule it out. my top three are:

Sunbeam
Pineapple Cream
Lemon Butter

sunbeam makes awesome kitchen appliances AND what's nicer than sitting in a sunny kitchen with a book and a cup of coffee? very kitcheny on both accounts!

pineapple cream and lemon butter both conjure up yummy food concoctions that aren't too sweet or too tart but just right. it just makes me think "mmmmmmmm, yummy."

i agree w/ parachute about orchard ladder. and daisy spell and first light both remind me of hacky fantasy novel titles... : )
