Vacation

Dear Kurt and lesser beings,
I am going to SF. I have not been deterred by hippies or environmental disasters. Nor by steep hills and unreasonably priced opera tickets. Nor by memories of manic depressives or greyhound. Or 'who's best' hostile LA-Bay rivalries. I will once again voyage after a 9 year absence to this fair golden gate of the north. And try to have a better time.
Activities include: Evening Tour of Alcatraz (alone, undaunted I will watch the oilslicked shores, and the setting sun shine it's last over the red borders of the bay.) Wanderings: Fine Arts Palace, Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown, GoldenGatePark. Possible attendance: SF Symphony: Mendelssohn (rush tickets accepting) and MOMA. Required: Attendance at friends birthday at a speakeasy called Bourbon and Branch, followed by a morning sensory massage (mmm dirty), steam and brunch... and wildcard: meet fellow blogger oopsie daisy. (as they say we westcoastbloggers have to stick together!)
My hope is that friend Cathy will have an awesome usherance into 30. That i won't be grievously disillusioned by any element of my adventure and that the gaping fact of my singleness won't spiral into lonliness. I have felt most alone in the following places: Alaska, New York and Ireland.
Notable non-traumatizing notes from my last trips: cable car, chinese new year, tigers eye bracelet, garlic, giant fabric store.
I depart Friday morning.
Adventure concluding Sunday.

'an awesome usherance into 30.' I believe hospice uses the same wording. Except, of course, they substitute the number '30' for 'death.'

Coincidence?

Love the period SF picture.

At least if this trip goes somewhat awry you've got another one coming up to make up for it, right? :)

You can totally skip Fisherman's Wharf. Spend a morning or afternoon at the new Ferry Building Marketplace and have lunch at Out The Door. If you MUST go to Fisherman's Wharf, hop on the F car along the Embarcadero.

I second what Kurt said. A grand Saturday would include browsing the marketplace at the ferry building, then taking the ferry to somewhere like Sausalito, then maybe spend the evening at Top of the Mark. Sounds like you'll have a grand time! If aloneness looms and you want to browse around Berkeley, holler to nothing but HAT's.

I'm just going to say that I love the sea lions who moved to Pier 39 after the 1989 earthquake. Not that they're necessarily a reason to go to Fisherman's Wharf, but they're so cute when they go "arf! arf!"

And yay for blogging brunches (and possible geeky web 2.0 parties.)
