Weird Facts Wednesday

The land ANIMAL that has the largest EYES are:

yes, you guessed it, the MIGHTY OSTRICH. (their eyes are 2"across)

This last week I've learned about: how horses see, muscle makeup of gorillas (again), fish harness equipment for deep sea fishing, antlers, bulls, their horns, polar bears, their bouyancy.

Bonus FACT:

How many deaths have occurred at the running of the bulls in Pamplona Spain since 1924?
When was the last death? 2003 (an expert runner, 63)... the most dramatic and only american to die however was in 1995- gored straight thru and he was only 22.

that's all?! impressive. And they were all human, of course, right? No animals were harmed? So wait, why are there 2 dates listed? I'm confused.

speaking of side bars. . .the Ranking thing is acting up - when you click on a blog it takes you to a weird Atom version? It's cleaner (and includes all of the blogs on the list!) but I kind of miss knowing when they were last updated, not just the order (1 hour ago, 2 days, 1 week, etc.)

Maybe I'm dumb, but don't ostriches lay eggs? Rendering them nonmammalian?

So funny, bcs I was about to be all, "But what about that giant SQUID they discovered recently, it's supposed to have the largest eyes on earth!" And squids are totally mammals, don'tcha know.

Forgive me please gentle reader.
Has some editing gone on that I've missed? The post says ANIMAL so where is the correction about ostriches not being mammals come from... oh dear....

In biology there are two major groups of living things: plants and animals. And here in this post there is "animal" which is not the same as "mammal". Even snails are animals and so are squids but they are not mammals: they have no hair, and no mammilary glands. Birds are animals but not mammals too.

Bonus material: Sharks are not fish, but are animals. Whales and dolphins are not fish they are mammals.

It's almost Wednesday. I can hardly wait for the new Weird Fact.
Will it be about which mammal has the most hair per square inch? or which birds are the smallest?
