it's true! apparently some poor girl, just but 18, in newyork at the upscale borders on park avenue has been struck down with TB. the CDC was notified and everyone had to get tested... my poor cath. and THEN she emails me again, and says that she does not intend to call me today. i tell her to speak plainly and she refuses. i'm having a victorian quarrel with her over email and i am MOST vexed.
I tested positive for TB in 2000. Had to go on NINE MONTHS of a prescription where - I was told - if I drank, I had a high chance of getting Hepititis. The good news: You can be exposed to TB, but if you get on the medication immediately, your chances of developing it are slim to none.
My roommate from college has TB from going to Cambodia, India, Ethiopia or a combination of the three. However, she's not doing the medication right now because of the alcohol ban.
On the other hand, she is in med school and working at hospitals, so they must not thing she's going to keel over coughing up blood any time soon.
Oh - don't think I didn't drink. They did a liver test after a month and I didn't have hepititis, so I figured I was good to go. (And I got it just from living in Manhattan. It's airborne, so...)
