According to...

Top 10 best jobs
MONEY Magazine and Salary.com researched hundreds of jobs, considering their growth, pay, stress-levels and other factors. These careers ranked highest. (more)1. Software Engineer2. College professor
3. Financial adviser 4. Human Resources Manager 5. Physician's assistant 6. Market research analyst 7. Computer IT analyst 8. Real Estate Appraiser 9. Pharmacist 10. Psychologist

2. College professor
Why it's great While competition for tenure-track jobs will always be stiff, enrollment is rising in professional programs, community colleges and technical schools -- which means higher demand for faculty. It's easier to break in at this level, and often you can teach with a master's and professional experience. Demand is especially strong in fields that compete with the private sector (health science and business, for example). The category includes moonlighting adjuncts, graduate TAs and college administrators.

hmm... i've never seen it look so good. it has to be an utter lie for most english departments but still- when i'm 50, i'm sooo there... more real posting later!

Hmmm, I would have never guessed that for the college professor. By "professional" programs, do they mean programs that actually have a use in the practical world? Just musing.

6 of these 10 jobs are ultimately BS--consultants and appraisers--we are so deserving of extinction, if this is the best we have. I'm heading out straight away to snogg a wild swan or something.

mmm, wild swans are very dangerous- and have been known to eat small children. please be careful.

Wow -- that is really something. In a former job (ahem) I was responsible for compiling jobs for a publication every month. I noticed that more and more prof jobs (at least, those in the literary sector) were demanding PhDs, which I thought was incredibly unfair. I mean, what do those PhD peeps have that we don't?? MORE STUDENT LOANS.

Maybe it's like a former prof of mine once said: Just publish a book. Because, you know, it's that easy.

It's funny, every time I hear the word "chapbook," my mind immediately conjures "chapstick." And then I'm like, oh right--chapbook. I made one of those, once.
