let’s shop!

balloons-color.jpg Balloons image by ems157In celebration of m’s b-day TOMORROW, I want to hold a shopping contest!

The quest: a birthday present for mendacious

The prize: m’s delight

The forum: ETSY

I’m keeping it to Etsy just to give us some parameters. We’ll be supporting an artist, just like m, who should also really sell her stuff on there, too, but I digress. There are so many fabulous little rabbit holes to fall down into on this site while searching jewelry, clothing, art, etc, and it will be a lot of fun to window-shop with our friend and hero in mind.

You have one week to post your ideas in comments. I suspect m may be brutally honest in her responses, and as she is the Birthday Girl, and m, she is allowed. But, I make the final call on selection, since I’m paying. Speaking of which, price limit is “within reason.” I’m not a rich girl, because obviously if I were, I’d be paying m a visit in person on her b-day, rather than mailing a gift! We would play the Wii and everything. I dream, I dream…

Now: shop! Go go go! It’s time to celebrate m!

Ok, I'm already breaking the rules and sending you something from a different web site, but every time I see these crafty paper flowers I think of M and I've been meaning to send you an email anyway to show you. . I'm sure it comes from her creativity with the felt flowers for her shower she hosted, perhaps these are too girly and pre-fab, but I still think they are pretty and it reminds me of Mendacious every time.

PS Happiest of Happy Birthdays, Mendacious, of course!

Is M into jewelry? Hmmm, but this necklace is pretty unique and I like the fabric aspect and changeability!

Or this one by the same artist, (in collaboration with a husband and wife artist team, so helping 3 artists in one!) makes me think of Pen and M, riding and crossing paths and waving and sharing a secret.

There are several retro designs. . perhaps you just found something for me instead. hmmm. ;)

ok, must get kids down for nap. .this website is so addictive. . .

Rule-breaker! ;) I like the flowers, not sure what m will think of them. Maybe in less girly colors? because she is a flowers person...

and yes, she does like jewelry; i'm curious to what she'll advise in this dept. i'm loving the photography version of the necklace!

It's so addictive, yes, and the possibilities so numerous...

I also found these spoon bracelets that I like, er, for Mendacious. It may be a bit feminie and flowery, too, but I think M has an appreciation for spoons and history. .maybe even if they aren't directly linked to her? Or maybe wearing something someone else's family has eaten off of for 100 yrs isn't quite as appealing? Several different options of obviously fork or spoon, to less obvious. I like the thought of having something that subtly looks like it's just a bracelet, but knowing it's really something more! Maybe that's just me.

Again, I may be way off with this ring. . I tend to be skewing awfully feminine, but I just know M has such an appreciation for nature. And I think some gifts should be things you might not get yourself, to push you a little and realize it's fun to have a bit of wimsy or color or elegance. .

Other than nature and crafty-ness, I think of M's strength in her faith. It's such a personal thing, though, so that's even harder, but here's one pendant that might capture something you like. Or I like how this one hangs and some of the others from this artist because of the rich, deep colors. Angel wing options. This simple understated one actually makes me think of Pen.

ok, it's late, I'll stop, I promise and let some others submit ideas. Or at least get the feedback from M!

oops, I left out this ring. I like the concept, but the size looks a little clunky. . .

oooo andria! well done.

1.no to flowers. bcs you know i have real ones. but they are awesome and am always tempted when i see them to buy them, but then what.

2.totally cool! love the 2nd one even more, flashier also works, a bolder pattern. but love the locket "industrial vibe".

3.spoon bracelet esp the one with the apostle dude. LOVE. do like the floral but odd trumps.

4.i LOVE the flower ring, but don't like its 'adjustable aspect'... + *sniff, my ring finger is bigger than 9* whatevs! but totally spot on with this assessment.

5. i like the rock one bcs its unusual and the slim cross, very nice, but usually am wary unless its an odd find bcs its too sentimental for me... need more of the bold decorative pieces. i have people to impress they already know i pray ;)P so 5 is out.

you ROCK! you are personal shopper awesomeness. it is so fun to see what you find.

I knew Andi would come thru on this challenge! And you're going down a completely different path than I was. I like your ideas better! Love the spoons and the pendants especially.

Is there a cut off on this? 'Cause I don't know if I'll have time to go browse until tomorrow.

But with what's here, I vote the spoons or the last necklace Pen put up. More votes to the spoon bracelets though.

penelope said...

the cutoff is technically next tuesday. so far, the spoon bracelet is winning for me, too! such a cool idea, and somehow very m.

I did some looking and didn't find anything I'd vote for more than the spoon bracelets or the vine necklace.

However, I do think she could pull off the bell bangles.

Although even if they're not annoying clanging, the chiming could still get old.

ok i really like the apostle RING. not the bracelet. i love the spoon idea. i am unsure of the execution. but i'm willing to embrace it if you really feel that the size of the spoon and color will not be lost on my frame. ;)

How about this for my favorite wayfarer?

I don't seem to know how to make a link... This item has the downside of being an adjustable ring, but the materials are really cool and there are other items also made with watch parts.

Okay, well, I LOVE these things, and if you are trying for a greener world... this is a reusable sandwich bag. She also makes reusable snack bags. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=23704872
anyway. just a different suggestion.

i'm sort of against a greener world on my birthday plus i eat out a lot, total downfall but true.

but i have to say besides the apostle ring, and kudos to ash for the awesome symbolism in what should be our matching necklaces i have to say,

MOM wins hands down for the most awesome items possible- i LOVE the idea of the watch mechanisms as ring (size 10), bracelet, etc... sorta perfect. good job mom.

penelope said...

Loving the watch ring, and also Ash's idea for the traveler. So perfect. And um, I kind of love those snack bags! And will probably purchase for myself. :)

Do we have a winner...? Stay tuned! I think we do, but I have to ponder just a bit more.

oooh, traveling, good call, Ashley. Here's a traveling bracelet. The scale is larger than I thought at first seeing it on the person's wrist. There's also one with a postcard and landscape scene by the same artist.

hmm, a hiking belt. I don't think the picture on the person has anything inside, but still an interesting concept.
